Maxeon Solar extends warranty for IBC modules to 40 years

Module manufacturer Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd. has extended the warranty for its Maxeon series with interdigitated back contact (IBC) cells to 40 years. The products are sold outside the U.S. and Canada under the »Sunpower Maxeon« brand. The new warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials, a power output warranty, and service for repair or replacement of defective modules. The minimum guaranteed power output is 98 percent in the first year of operation, followed by a maximum annual degradation of 0.25 percent. After 40 years, the performance guarantee is then 88.3 percent, the company said.
Maxeon's warranty is reportedly the longest in the industry. It applies to systems in select markets in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) economic areas, as well as Australia, Japan and Mexico, that were and will be installed on or after Jan. 1, 2022. Eligibility and terms for the new warranty varied by market and require registration on Maxeon's website.
